Helping you and your family go from surviving to thriving.
Taking charge of your healing journey is a heroic step. Much like training for an athletic challenge, it requires dedication, courage, determination, and self-love. Change, real lasting change, isn’t always easy. It requires persistence, determination, and motivation. You will need to commit to your own growth process, be curious and open-minded, and be willing to do the sometimes difficult mental, emotional, and spiritual work to change habits and patterns that no longer serve you or those you care about.
Having someone walking alongside you on this journey – a trustworthy, wise companion and mentor – can make all the difference. Someone who has walked the path before, knows the pitfalls and potentials, can give you a shoulder to lean on, and creates a safe space where your “hot mess” times are not just tolerated, but celebrated. Because that’s where change happens.
“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.”
- Richard Bach, Illusions
Maybe you and your loved ones have gone through a lot lately. Maybe you’ve had to deal with trauma, or abuse, or a difficult separation or divorce. Maybe one or more of your children (or you) have Autism, or ADHD, or significant mood issues like anxiety or depression. You didn’t get the a manual when your kids were born, and even if you had, the kinds of situations you’re trying to work through probably wouldn’t be covered in the Parenting 101 handbook.
You feel overwhelmed, stressed out, and stuck. Issues from your own childhood are coming up, and maybe your own trauma triggers are getting reactivated, making things even more challenging when you try to keep functioning as a parent, partner, or professional, or all of the above.
You’re getting burned out. It’s all you can do to make it through each day as best you can, and hopefully most of the wheels are still on the bus at bedtime. You’re surviving, but you certainly aren’t thriving. And you’re worried about your kids and their futures, as well as your own.
You dream of a day when you and your family can feel real joy, peace, and fulfillment – when life will be fun and exciting, playful and relaxing. You’d love to figure out how to let go of your past, your worries and your regrets, all your own childhood struggles and messy family history, so you can help your kids have a better life than you did. And you’d love to go beyond just surviving day by day, and get to the point where you and those you love most can really thrive.
You’re in the right place.
YOUR THERAPIST
My name is David Smith,
and my passion is helping parents, families, and caregivers and helpers of all kinds go from surviving to thriving. I’m here to help you and those you love most get unstuck, feel more joy and connection, and get beyond old wounds and unhealthy patterns that have been holding you back from the life you really want.
I love working with people and families who have experienced childhood and family trauma, autism and neurodiversity issues, divorce and separation, and other complicated and difficult situations. I love this work, because I believe that by healing these wounds and learning how to love, forgive, and feel truly alive and safe and connected again, we offer healing not only to ourselves but to everyone we touch.
In some Native American traditions, it’s said that when you heal yourself, you heal your descendants 7 generations forward and your ancestors 7 generations back. This is powerful work, and I believe it’s possible. I also believe it’s the way we will heal ourselves as a species and ultimately help the world heal as well.
I would be honored to share this journey with you.
